Between the ages of 6-9, students tend to be in the process of discovering what style of music they enjoy to listen and sing to. Popular styles include; age appropriate Musical Theatre, Modern Pop, Rock and Disney. Singing lessons start with interactive activities and vocal warm ups that encourage students to stretch and prepare their voice to singing correctly. Students will be introduced to essential vocal technique such as:

  • Dynamics
  • Diction
  • Vocal clarity
  • Diaphragmatic breathing
  • Vocal qualities

Throughout the singing lessons, children will work on:

  • Vocal technique
  • Rhythm and timing
  • Tonality
  • Pitch
  • Projecting the voice
  • Acting through song
  • Basic microphone technique
  • Performance skills
  • Expanding their vocal range

Many students enjoy making a repertoire folder filled with a selection of songs they feel comfortable singing that range in genre. At this age, teachers encourage taking part in as many performance events across the North East as possible such as local open mics and small friendly competitions in order to gain confidence and put the skills they have learnt to practice. Lessons are taught in a friendly and relaxing environment, making sure students have lots of fun whilst gaining new skills.

LCM Music Theatre and Popular Music Vocals examinations are an option at this age. Teachers will discuss in more depth during the singing lessons.
