Singing lessons for students aged 10-15 are a little bit more advanced and begin to introduce more skills and knowledge of vocal technique and performance. At this age, students may still be finding their favourite genre of music to listen and sing to, however some might already have a strong sense of identity.
Styles that are popular to focus on include; Pop, Rock, Contemporary and Classical Musical Theatre, Folk, Country and Disney. Each lesson begins with a fun activity to boost energy and vocal warm up exercises. During this time, students will find a change in their vocal range and it is important to keep singing through it.
Students will be exposed to a range of vocal technique such as:
- Diaphragmatic breathing
- Vocal clarity
- Estill six vocal qualities
- Vocal health
During the singing lessons, students will discover:
- Vocal technique
- Rhythm and timing
- Breath control
- Extending their vocal range
- Connecting the different voice qualities
- Projecting the voice
- Acting through song
- Advanced microphone technique
Students will put together a repertoire folder which will include songs from different genres in which they are comfortable and confident singing. At this age we also begin to look at basic song writing and improvising skills as lots of students really enjoy writing their own material. Everyone at this point would be encouraged to take part in lots of fun performance events around the North East.
Lessons are fun based and boosting confidence is high priority. Taking part in local open mics, competitions and auditions are a brilliant way to boost confidence and put the skills they have learnt to practice. LCM Music Theatre and Popular Music Vocals examinations are available. Teachers will be able to discuss this in further detail during the lessons.
